Samwoh’s Innovative Solution in Sustainable Concrete Bags Win at ACI-SC Green Concrete Cube Competition 2023

Singapore, 13 November 2023 — Samwoh Corporation Pte Ltd has been recognised at the American Concrete Institute – Singapore Chapter (ACI-SC) Green Concrete Cube Competition 2023, where its innovative solution in sustainable concrete secured a Merit Award and ranked fourth among 13 participating teams.

The competition challenged participating teams to develop high-performance concrete cubes incorporating a minimum of 5% waste materials over a three-month period, driving innovation in sustainable construction practices.

Samwoh’s winning entry explored the use of dried concrete sludge and mining sand fines in high-strength self-compacting concrete. Dried concrete sludge is waste generated from batching processes and mixer truck washouts, while mining sand fines are very fine particles produced from sand mining and processing. These waste materials are often disposed of in landfills and coastal areas respectively, contributing to environmental challenges.

By recycling these materials into self-compacting concrete, the team demonstrated a sustainable approach that reduces waste sent to landfills and minimises the degradation of water bodies caused by fine sedimentation.
