Delivering Engineering Excellence for the Future of Airfield Infrastructure
About Us
Samwoh Group of Companies is a vertically integrated organisation that specialises in the field of civil engineering and supply of construction materials. Backed by its award-winning and accredited Innovation Centre, the Group develops innovative, sustainable and productive solutions for the built environment.
Having more than twenty years of presence in the airfield environments, SWIA Pte. Ltd. (SWIA) spun off from the construction arm of the Group in 2020. This strategic move allows SWIA to unlock value, accelerate growth and increase focus on the airfield and infrastructure engineering in both commercial airports and military airbases.
Today, SWIA has emerged as a trusted one-stop shop offering comprehensive project management, technical solutions and services for the complex surroundings and demanding requirements of the airfield environments. Together with all stakeholders, SWIA reminds steadfast in its pursuit of engineering excellence and technological progress to ensure high safety standards and advance with the aviation sector in tandem.
Our Experience at a Glance
Building on the wealth of experience gained over last two decades, SWIA has established itself as a multifaceted contractor who is conversant with civil engineering, pavement technology, maintenance and upgrading works in the airfield environment.
As a reliable contractor, SWIA has successfully completed a wide range of projects with its esteemed partners such as the Changi Airport Group (CAG), Defence Science & Technology Agency (DSTA) as well as other airport and airbase operators.
Moving forward, SWIA is committed to work closely with the stakeholders to strengthen Singapore’s position as a global aviation hub through the delivery of world-class infrastructure in a safe and timely manner.

Core Competencies
Runway and taxiway resurfacing and trapezoidal grooving
At SWIA, the team recognises that runways and taxiways are the lifeline of an airport, providing a controlled and safe environment for aircraft operations. These critical infrastructures require regular maintenance and periodic overhauls to uphold their performance and functionality.
Over the years, SWIA has been reckoned as the main service provider for the paving of runways and taxiways in both commercial airports and military airbases. Coupled with the know-hows and fine workmanship, high-quality asphalt premix produced with state-of-the-art batching plant further bolsters the integrity of these infrastructures.
Besides, flight safety is uncompromising and safe landings of aircrafts are of utmost importance to the airport operators. In this regard, one of the standard practices at airports worldwide is to cut grooves into the surface of a runway. This proven technology increases the braking coefficient and minimises the risk of hydroplaning in wet conditions.
To realise the full potential of grooving, SWIA adopts the proprietary trapezoid-shaped grooves over the conventional square-shaped grooves. The advantages of this new method are manifolds which include the increment of drainage capacity, extension of the service life of runways as well as the reductions of tyre wear, rubber buildup, edge chipping and groove closing.
Aircraft parking apron construction and upgrading
The airport apron is a hard surface designed to support the weight of parked aircraft and equipped with facilities for ground services. It is a vital component of airport infrastructures for parking of aircrafts to load and unload passengers and cargo, refuel, undergo maintenance, etc.
Knowing the essentiality, SWIA is there to ensure the serviceability of apron spaces by taking on the routine upkeeping and improvement. The insightful knowledge of pavement design, concrete technology and workflow has enabled us to carry out the work seamlessly and precisely. This adeptness proved to be a boon to the short lead time that we offer in a bid to minimise the disruptions to the aircraft traffic.
Answering the call for sustainability, SWIA is partnering CAG and NUS to process and utilise up to 50% of demolition waste to refurbish the old parking aprons. This trailblazing approach has considerably reduced the reliance on imported resources and lowered the embodied carbon of parking aprons.
Airfield maintenance and rehabilitation
Made up of two 4-km runways, more than 46 kilometres of taxiways, 241 aircraft parking stands and many other facilities, it is definitely not an easy feat to manage this massive network of airfield assets in the Singapore Changi Airport.
Round the clock, SWIA is there to ensure the efficiency and uninterrupted airport operations through its thorough inspections, preventive and corrective actions. The key success factors of this assurance lie in the pragmatic experience gained in navigating operational constraints and close coordination with its partners.
In time to come, the scale is expected to be doubled with the current development of Changi East and SWIA stands ready to service the airport community.
Airfield pavement products and development
Beyond delivering on the commitments, SWIA stays at the forefront of innovation and embraces the concept of value engineering. Relentlessly, several first-of-its-kind products have been developed and introduced to speed up the construction processes, enhance the quality and durability. This initiative not only brings added benefits to the stakeholders but also gives SWIA the competitive edge over its competitors.
Airport related facilities and technologies
Equipped with the deep understanding and relevant experience, all airfield projects are undertaken by a dedicated team of professionals and crews. Alongside, there are strong supports from various domain experts in meeting the specific needs of its partners.
As a major civil contractor for the Singapore Changi Airport, SWIA is tasked to respond and recover from emergencies within small working window. At the core of its fast turnaround services is the expeditious mobilisation of resources, the meticulous work plan reinforced by the full suites of purpose-built equipment and adeptness in executions.
Track Records
Since making the foray into the scene of airport operations in 2002, SWIA has been growing from strength to strength.
Starting off as a small sub-contractor for a major facilities management company, SWIA is breaking new grounds with one project after another and moving upstream steadily as a main contractor undertaking notable projects.
This remarkable achievement speaks volume of its competence and credibility that earn the trust and foster confidence with partners. The portfolio includes but not limited to:
Subcontract for Reinstatement of Rigid and Flexible Pavement at Singapore Changi Airport (LTA T316 – STEC)
Changi Airport Airside Resurfacing (CAG)
Reconfiguration of Aircraft Stands at Singapore Changi Airport (CAG)
